Transforming Travel - Ways to travel to school
At Powell Corderoy Primary School we are on a mission to help everyone learn that there are many benefits to sustainable, active travel. Where possible, we encourage everyone to walk, scoot, cycle and make use of public transport.

We know that an active start to the school day…
- keeps us fit and healthy;
- helps our pupils develop road safety skills which will keep them safe as they travel further afield and more independently;
- helps to keep our local air clean, and our streets free from congestion;
- helps us learn life skills that everyone should be able to benefit from;
- is a great way to connect with nature and build relationships with those we travel with.
We are working hard at Powell to make sustainable active travel as easy as possible.
- We have designated scooter parking for infant and junior children.
- We have bicycle storage on site.
- We have a storage shed for cycle helmets so that they can be kept dry during the school day.

To aid our mission, in September 2025 we joined Living Streets. Each day the children record how they have travelled to school. Children who have travelled actively, including via ‘park and stride’, at least once a week will receive a badge at the end of the month. Here are some suggested walking routes
to get to Powell.

Cycling
Cycling
Currently we do not yet have any cycle routes to school. If you have one that you use, it would be fantastic if you could share it with others.

Park and stride
Park and stride
We understand that some families travel a greater distance, or have time commitments so cannot walk, scoot or cycle. In these instances ‘park and stride’ is a great option. Many families use the ‘sandy car park’. The what3words address for the entrance is walks.tries.small

We do not yet have a park and stride site to the east of Dorking. Do you live a 10 minute drive from school and could offer parking to a friend who lives further away? Or perhaps you own a business in Dorking that could offer a couple of parking spaces to families at drop off/pick up times. Please get in touch with the school office if you are able to help us to expand our park and stride provision.

Parking
Parking
We understand that sometimes using the car is unavoidable. There is a small car park at the top of our driveway with 34 spaces. Parking is not allowed in the coach car park. When parking on the local roads, we would ask that all drivers are mindful of the local residents because our relationship with our neighbours is important to us.
Parking guidelines…
Keep driveways clear and be mindful of dropped kerbs
Keep pavements clear
Please turn your engine off when parked to reduce pollution.
Please ensure that emergency services vehicles are able to pass by your vehicle if necessary
